It is being claimed that this will cause some sort of fuss, either raising ratings or causing some stations to boycott in protest. I’d like to point out that Blades of Glory already covered this ground so at this point it is passé.
And while it made some sense in that movie for the two men to skate together (though I don’t think anything stopped them from taking on female partners), it is kind of absurd in the DWTS setting. Being gay is pretty specific to sexuality. Nothing about it means that all activities traditionally performed in man-woman combos need be disrupted. A gay man can still act as a romantic interest for a woman in the dramatic arts (as much as some might not buy the performance) and he can certainly dance with a woman. If gay men didn’t dance with women, who would?
