This is fucking insane. I’m just saying.
I don’t really get beauty standards. I don’t think they can be blamed on real people or anything individuals do. Somehow we’ve created these social ideals that have taken a life of their own and that suck for everyone, yet they persist. I think our hopeless pursuit for some constructed ideal of beauty is the same as our hopeless pursuit for material advantage. Too many people have it in their mind that life is a competition. It is certainly to a degree (competing for basic security and reproduction) but it is overdone. Those that are able to resist that competitive mentality are ugly, poor, but happy. I think Buddha was on to something in the Four Noble Truths. It is a great proof of the irrationality of humankind that we actively pursue our own emotional destruction.
